Questions and answers
What is a hash used for?
A hash is a fixed-length fingerprint of data. Changing even one character changes the hash completely, so hashes are used to check that a file has not been altered.
Is a hash the same as encryption?
No. A hash cannot be turned back into the original data.
Why is MD5 not offered?
Browsers do not include MD5 in their built-in cryptography functions. SHA-1 is available for compatibility, but it is no longer considered safe for security uses, so prefer SHA-256 or SHA-512.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The hash is calculated on your device.
